28/11/24 - Science & Industry!

This Friday was Black Friday, which is known to be a second Record Store Day!

The only thing I wanted this year was Ween's 20th Anniversary re-release of Shinola (Vol. 1), which I promply went batshit insane over the second I heard about.

We got there about an hour before doors opened but there was only like 30 people infront of us. Usually I enjoy going into Manchester for Record Store Day but the only record store in Manchester stocking Shinola was Picadilly Records, which from experience, I was NOT about to queue for.
We instead ended up going to Rough Trade in Liverpool, and oh my god. New favourite record store. It was so cozy inside??

As we got through the doors I looked to my right and saw this blank sleeve with a label on it that said "K-2 Plant Hire Ltd" and I was like.. hang on is that The KLF.. but I had no data on my phone so I couldn't double check. Skip forward 20 minutes I get my Ween vinyl and walk past again, this time I pick it up and see the damn KLF logo on the back. So cue me queueing in this line AGAIN to buy another record that wasn't even on the Record Store Day list.

I get to the counter and this is when I found out that the freaking KLF WERE AT THE RECORD STORE 2 WEEKS PRIOR FOR AN EVENT. AND I DIDNT FUCKING KNOWWWWW??? oh and also that THE VINYL WAS SIGNED?????
It was actually a little goodie bag pack of a vinyl, a zine, and a poster. (the zine and poster were signed)

And while I was already cringing at how low the number in my bank account was, I go to the back of the shop and find my favourite Rush album on vinyl... for £18... I couldn't NOT.

As my bank account hit it's all time low, my dad thought It'd be a great time to point out they had STUDIO GHIBLI SOUNDTRACK VINYLS THAT LOOKED AWESOME?? I had to be pried away from them as we left.

Anyway, here is my haul. I am very happy at what I got especially since I went in only expecting to get one thing!

Thanks for reading!!

It has officially been one year since I started learning HTML / since I attempted my first piece of code. I would like to discuss my journey with you today!

Since my early teens I always loved designing websites on drag and drop sites like Wix and Carrd, to the point where I'd make secondary accounts just to get more free space. Just like me with bag design, I never really thought about learning how to make them from scratch. Most of my attempts to learn JavaScript and Python in the past ended in frustration and failure so It took me being in a very specific mental state to actually pick up and nurture this new skill.

w3schools was my saviour, It's courses were laid out in the perfect way for me to stay engaged; Text, Interactive Example, and Quiz at the end. This was also a huge reason I ended up sticking with it. It was amazing to be able to build my site as I learned because I was learning how to make my concepts a reality, I think this is why I am struggling with JavaScript becuase I don't have any immediate goals for what I'd do with it, I just know it will open a lot of doors.

What inspired me to pick up HTML was actually straw.page becuase I got pissed at not being able to make exactly what was in my head LMAO
My first goal was to re-create my straw.page from scratch, which I only really half-arsed becuase I broke it half way through. (an issue I now would easily be able to resolve)

Soon after with each pass of my site I learned more which eventually made me re-code the entire thing much neater. The crumg-site was my first complex design I coded, then it was the fish-site, then the whatchacallitsname-site, then most recently the guide-to-the-uncanny-site.

Currently one of my biggest aesthetic inspirations is the 2001 Nintendo website found in the Web Design Museum. Re-creating parts of a website that was primarily made with images with pure code is a fun challenge for myself.

This has been more of a ramble than anything, but I'd like to take a moment to step back and look at my achievements over the past year. I have always struggled visualising my progress but I am unapologetically proud of how far I have come with this hobby.

Thank you for reading, logging off!

Last Sunday I went to Liverpool Comic Con to meet two of the most important voice actors in South Park.

If you know me you know that I live and breathe South Park, I am a huge collector and it has been my favourite show of all time for nearly 4 years as of writing this. Last weekend I got the once in a lifetime chance to meet Mona Marshall (Voice of Sheila Broflovski (Kyles Mom)) and April Stewart (Voice of Wendy Testaburger).

I wanted to wear something special so my parents helped to crunch out a Dr. Alphonse Mephesto cosplay in the 3 days before the con, over the weekend around 5 people asked for my picture which was very new to me seen as I hardly get anyone recognising my usual Doug Remer cosplay!

We got there pretty much right as the priority doors opened at 9am and beelined straight for the signing tables as April Stewarts signature was the only thing I had not pre-booked which made for an awkward 30 seconds of her talking to my mum while I tried to pay for the damn thing.
April Stewart was SO SWEET. She loved the little Kevin my mum made and was impressed by my collection, I could tell she could tell I was super nervous but we got to chat for a bit longer than we would have otherwise because there was surprisingly nobody behind us in line. I gave her a little Mephesto Tech pin and she wore it ALL DAY on her lanyard!!

I got a print of Sharon signed because I thought it'd be good to get one of a character that doesnt have much merch seen as I was getting her to sign my Wendy plushie. I wanted her to sign it on her jacket but becuase she struggled a bit she offered to sign the foot ASWELL!! She was so sweet and genuinely cared about the interaction, I really hope she visits the UK again because I would love to meet her again!

Then we hopped over to Mona Marshalls queue for her signature and oh my GOD!! She was SO impressed with my collection that she called her assistant over to look and GUESS WHAT?? THEY ASKED US TO SEND THE PICTURE OVER SO SHE COULD POST IT??? WHATT??? Nothing has been posted yet but a picture of my collection is officially in Mona Marshalls hands.. woah..
She thought my name was Kevin at first becuase of the doll but we sorted it and I got my signature haha. I'm saying it now, if Mephesto is in any modern episodes from now on, I'm taking it as a sign..

I had also booked a signature with David McCormack, the VA of Bluey's Dad, Bandit. But I didn't actually care about that part, David McCormack is the lead singer of a band called "Custard" which I am a BIG fan of. So I went in with a Custard CD that I had bought for this occasion and my god I dont know who was happier to see who LMAOO
He leaped up and was like "OH MY GOD A MUSIC MAN!" and before I could even tell him my name he had grabbed it and started signing it HAHA, Then out of nowhere he was like wait I have something for you. This is insane. You are usually the one to give celebrities gifts NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND?? He pulls out a fucking VINYL from his backpack and tells me I am one of 3 people in the UK to have this.. He must have given out one per day of the con. So I went in with a Loverama CD and came out with a signed one of a kind VINYL?? He also gave me a pin and a few stickers. This is still possibly the most insane thing that happened that day.

After some walking around I realised that I'm not that big on the actual con itself, it felt like a lot of the stalls were just resold stuff and not much unique stuff I'd actually buy. But that didn't matter becuase I still had photos to take.

I was the first in for both of the individual photos, April Stewart was first and she LIT UP seeing me step from the curtain. She said it was great seeing me again as I walked out! The photos were pretty quick one in one out so there wasn't much talk. Mona Marshall was also happy to see me again. I got both pictures put in frames immediately.

I never really understood when people would think something happening wasn't real but I GENUINELY thought I was going to wake up at any random point that day. Genuinely the best day of my life, I will be treasuring this memory for as long as I live.

Thank you for reading! Lots of love, JAZ xoxo

Another MCM gone by so quick! I am feeling so full of love for my interests and fellow nerds this week.

I have to be honest I was TERRIFIED for this MCM, the new extention to the ExCel Center was completed and we were moved from the middle of the hall right up into the ICC Suite. The ICC Suite is upstairs and as close to the accessability enterence as you can get, which is amazing, but meant that we wouldn't get the general publics footfall.

I was really anxious about walking to the end of a hall and tapping out and having to walk back but It ended up not being too bad.

Becuase Cosplay Central was now in its own room, we got almost double the amount of space we usually get. Our eyes have really opened to the true possibilities of the Cosmic Workshop stall now. More people were coming to us with genuine interest which meant we weren't wasting peoples time and my poor mothers vocal chords.

I slept horribly the whole weekend as I was forced into my Day Cycle prematurely, but managed to get there on time and left around 2 hours early each day (apart from Sunday, where I slept in to prepare for packdown). Day 1 was a bit overwhelming, I was in pain trying to walk around and was frustrated with my body for not handling it better, but it ended up being okay becuase by Saturday I had acclimatised myself to the change in environment.
Soon I will be buying myself a walker, I never realised you could get them with handles that rested closer to where a cane would be instead of infront so I could take the pressure off my knees and back. I am very excited about this !!

I only wore Remer on the Friday as I was dealing with some anxiety reguarding someone who would recognise me yearly, but It was a good descision becuase I was BOILING the entire weekend. It's a good job I packed my shorts "Just in case" (It's fucking October wdym). I also took my 3DS as usual! BUT FORGOT IT ON THE SUNDAY RARAGHH I got 18 StreetPasses in total!! I even talked to a few stall holders about it! I plan to get some things on my website for May so that I can hopefully befriend some people through this.

Me and Nox decided to do a Cosplay Bingo, something I have been wanting to do for YEARS but only remember at like, 4pm on the Saturdays.. Nox got bingo first, but I got TWO bingos through the weekend. I started off by only counting it if I got a pic with them but was too mentally souped to go through with that the entire weekend. I talked to a Tenna cosplayer that found the picture I chose rlly funny and took a picture of the sheet so they could do it next con LMAO

Saturday was when I managed to get around the show floors, I homed in on the Bandai Namco Gashapon machines IMMEDIATELY (THERE WAS AN UNDERTALE ONE???) which was at the end of the South hall then slowly made my way back. I got quite a satisfying haul this year, my bank is not so satisfied though..
On Sunday I did one last sweep of both halls and got the last of the things I wanted. My mum had given me £60 to get her some stuff from Artist Alley so I made it my mission to spend every penny for her.

The workshops went down SUPER well, our workshop room was literally the room opposite Cosplay Central, so instead of having to point people over 2 crowded halls to get to our stall, people were able to go straight there after the workshop to buy kits and ask questions. We did 2 Bookmark workshops, 2 normal educational workshops, and one "Make & Take". This MCM finally opened my mums eyes to what community really meant in terms of her business, something I've been trying to get her to see for years. I'm helping her make a community Discord while she works on her Patreon!!

Walking around Artist Alley always inspires me with my own projects, next year I will be working on releasing my bag designs to the public and building my own Business.

MCM Comic Con is my home, It's where I get the opportunity to be myself and talk to people who are just like me in an environment I would consider a safe space. I would not be the person I am today without MCM. I can't wait for May <3

I hope to make some friends next year, Thank you so much for reading!!

LOTS of love, joy, and wonder,
- Jaz xoxoxo

My third Fantasy Forest complete! This one felt like a mix of the last two; the torrential rain of the first, and the skin frying HEAT of the second somehow all at once.

I had a lovely time this year at the festival, I managed to talk to some people I havent seen in years and even meet up with someone for the first time in person!

Day 1 (Friday) I was set free from my labour and was able to walk around Winchcombe. I have been eyeballing the antique shops the past 2 years but never had time to go in. The only one that was open was owned by this adorable 72yo man who had made pottery when he was younger and decided to put some of his works on a shelf to sell. Me and Dino fell in love with it immediately, Dino ended up getting a cute pot and Nox bought me this amazing little teapot that I will treasure forever.

After going around a couple shops I wanted to step out of my comfort zone a bit and get food at one of the local Pubs, but by the time I had finished my drink I was already too worked up over ordering so we left to go to a cafe instead. I get a lot of anxiety ordering food and pubs are scary becuase of how inconsistent they are, like do I order at the bar or the table, do I pay immediately or get the bill as we leave? Its TOO MUCH. Food trucks are my jam.
The cafe we ate at was called "The Tipsy Egg" and I had genuinely one of the best burgers of my life while I recovered mentally from a failed step forward.

Day 2 (Saturday) I mainly just hid In the tent, I had pre-warned my mum that I enjoy FF a lot less than MCM and to not rely on me too much when It came to running the stall (which she was fine with). I only bought myself one thing this time around, and It was the most perfectly fitting cowboy hat to ever touch my scalp. I genuinely did not take that thing off the entire weekend.

Day 3 (Sunday) was the most eventful by FAR. We were running one workshop a day with 8 participents (first come first serve), but had so many people disappointed that they didnt make it before the spaced filled up. So my mum literally did BACK TO BACK 30m workshops throughout the day. Actually insane work on her part, I'm so proud of her and the team for getting everyone through this weekend.
While my mum was doing one of the workshops it started to rain BIG TIME. We had to emergency move the tables inside of the tent but my poor mother was stood right where the edge of the tent was dripping, so me in my infinite wisdom tried holding the edge of the tent up so the drips would miss her (this was like. 2 minutes into the downpour. it did nothing) and in turn was also getting absolutely beat by the rain. I was SOAKED the ENTIRE DAY, and when I thought I dried off? ROUND 2 BEGAN.

You may notice the feeling while writing this blog is set to "conflicted". This is because while I do LOVE the festival, I do not deal with heat well at all. Fantasy Forest is always slap bang in the middle of heatwave season, and I end up barely sleeping the entire weekend each time without fail. The tents are set up in a way where there isnt anywhere to sit properly or loiter without being in the way of people coming in and out, and these are like, 8+ hour days. My feet hurt.

I have been doing a lot of thinking and have decided that next year I will come down but either only for the day or only stay over one night and do two days. This is banking on either hitching a ride back from any of my mum's friends, or the more hopeful option of being comfortable with trains by then.

This was a big brain dump post that has been conjuring for a few days, Thank you for reading!
Big hugs!!! - Jaz xoxoxoxo

A Christmas post in JULY?? I know right just put me down already Im going crazy.

Listening to December 7th's album Take Care of Yourself gives me such a gutwrenching longing for the holidays, or even just Winter. My favourite season may be Autumn, but Christmas is my favourite time of year by far. I always miss how much love is in the air, no stress, just making memories.

It's moments like these where I think about my overseas friends and how much I wish to include them in my life. Even across the world they are always in my mind in my happiest hours. I hope to one day spend the holidays surrounded by friends AND family.

Most of the time I struggle with seasonal depression, and the holidays never quite feel right becuase of that, but in recent years It has improved and I see myself wanting more and more whimsical Christmases each year.

My family has gotten smaller since 2020, so Christmas hasn't felt as big as it used to. We had so much extended family over and had parties on Christmas eve, now we have much quieter festivities.
While I enjoy the cozy cheese board nights with hot chocolates and board games, I miss the full house and sleeping to the sounds of chatter and laughter.

Pretty random post for this blog, but It was something I had been thinking about recently.
Thanks for the read!! - Lots of loovee, Jaz xoxoxo

Last weekend was MCM weekend! WOOHOO!! This MCM was the best one we have had in a good while, everything went pretty perfectly.

MCM Comic Con is my safe space, It's the place where for the past 5+ years I have been slowly coming out of my shell and taking baby steps out of my comfort zone. I will always advocate for everyone going to a con at least once in their lives, It's such a fun and accepting environment. It's the highlight of my year every time I go.

I was really hoping to have gotten my own business to the point where I could have been promoting it this MCM but have put it off until October as to not rush things. Look out for Syllenes! Coming soon!

This was the first MCM in a good while where I was there pretty much start to finish all 3 days, I only went in like an hour late at most. I ended up being there for 11 hours on the Sunday becuase of pack down, my feet felt like I had walked through hell.

As usual we had 2 bookmark workshops and 2 regular workshops; The bookmarks me and Dino host in The Hangout, where you can use a stylus to design a leather bookmark for yourself to take home, and the big workshops me and my Mum host, where she teaches a group of 20 (30 in October) the basics of traditional Leather tooling.
They both went amazing, people even gave her a round of applause after the 2nd workshop!

Sadly my 3DS died halfway through the Sunday, but throughout the weekend I got around 19/20 Streetpasses! I got 4 or 5 on the Friday, 10!! on the Saturday, and 4 on Sunday. I talked to a few exhibitors so I will hopefully get a few more in October!
I can't say I got around to seeing 100% of the stalls but I saw a hell of a lot more than I did last year. This year I actually treated myself, I saw a lot more things I genuinely liked this year and artists alley felt a lot more lively than the past few. I went in with the mission to get stickers and oh the stickers I got.

All in all I had an amazing time, I got recognised for my Doug Remer cosplay twice! I'm looking forward to October MCM and the much sooner Fantasy Forest too.

I hope this was a good read! Lots of looove, Jaz xoxo

Yesterday was my Birthday (07/05) and honestly I think its the best birthday Ive ever had, I feel so full of love.

My best friend Dino is back over for the summer and he arrived 2 days before my birthday, and everything was just lining up perfectly. I woke up a bit earlier than I wanted to (forced my Day cycle over the course of the past week so I would be awake) so my partner gave me their presents when I got up before they went to sleep again for a bit. When everyone was up again I went downstairs and It was all decorated !!

I opened presents and Toast was enjoying all of the wrapping paper so much youd think it was HER birthday LOL
I got so much stuff I am so happy with and still smiling about today:

Then we all went to Coral Island Arcade in Blackpool, This was quite special to me becuase I hadnt been to Blackpool since my grandpa passed away in 2020 and we used to love going to that arcade together. It was amazing, we played so much and ended up playing the more physical games that I would have never played on my own.

We were walking down a long strip of claw machines and there my eyes locked on it. A fucking SOUTH PARK CLAW MACHINE. We all went crazy. I'd now like to present a story in 3 parts.

After the arcade we head home and ate ribs and duck that my grandma had made as per my request 🤤. I'm going to be living off of those ribs for days.
Overall, hanging out with more than one person healed my yearning for a friend group!
Thank you for reading!! signing off, JAZ xoxo

Writing this late again oopsies. Last month I did something really big for me, I went into Manchester by myself.

Ive always struggled with crippling anxiety that peaks when I am around people I do not know, I left school becuase of this and it has been a constant in my life. When I was younger I was terrified that I would never be able to leave the house or ever have a sense of independance but I finally proved to little me that I am capable. and I did it.

I did the same loop me and my dad had done in an older post near Christmas. Mum dropped me off outside of Vinyl revival and I visited all of the record stores on the block and went through Afflecks too. I ended up walking up to the Arndale and buying some music for me and my Dad, and got gifts for my family while I was out too.

I won't go into my trip too much becuase it was basically the same as the Christmas post. But I am very proud of myself and finally feel like I have gained some hope for my future.

- lots of love, a mentally reborn Jaz xoxo

Writing this a month after it happened becuase I finally updated my blogs

I look forward to RSD every year as it feels like a me and dad activity yk? There wasn't actually much on the list this year that I was interested in, so I wasnt expecting to get much.
LITTLE DID I KNOW THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE SOUNDTRACK VINYL WAS SITTING IN THE VERY STORE WE PLANNED TO GO TO. (HUGE becuase it has Ocean Man by Ween on it, my 2nd ever Ween vinyl on a technicality)

My list for this year was

  • Good Songs by JVB - Joey Valence & Brae
  • You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) - Dead or Alive
  • The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie Soundtrack

The Spongebob one wasnt actually on the RSD list, it was just a coincidence that it was in the same store. We were actually originally going to the loop we usually do in Manchester, but they had none of the ones me or Dad wanted?? So he looked around and found this other one called Sticky Black Tarmac.

We got there and decided once we got these we would go into Manchester to either look at the other record stores or go to HMV and get the ones I found on their website.

5 Hours. 5 Hours we waited in line.

Thank god there were chairs dotted around otherwise I would have died. We arrived at around 7.30am too.. I heard people had been queueing since 11pm THE NIGHT BEFORE?? crazy. I'd only do that for a re-release of The Mollusk haha

After heading into Manchester for HMV and food I ended up with a pretty good haul!

..and the Gudetama plush

  • Good Songs by JVB - Joey Valence & Brae (Record Store)
  • The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie Sountrack (Record Store)
  • Wet Leg - Wet Leg (HMV)
  • Black Holes and Revelations - Muse (HMV)
  • Minecraft - Volume Alpha - C418 (HMV)

I'm very happy with the outcome of this years Record Store Day and I hope next year has more stuff I recognise!

Thank you for reading!! lots of love, Jaz xoxo

HELLO!! I was gonna write this last night but was exhausted so you get it today instead.

Yesterday me and my dad went into Manchester for the day after planning it for over a year LMAO

We took the train into town and oh my god I forgot how much I loved taking the train to places, I dont leave the house much but I'm hoping to go out more in the new year! (hopefully getting some financial help!)

I've been listening to a lot of December 7th so I was thinking about that while travelling, It made me feel pretty nice. Either way, we hopped off the train and started on our ROUTE.

First we did the Record Store loop, there are 3 Record Stores that are in close proximity to eachother.

  • Picadilly Records
  • Vinyl Exchange
  • Vinyl Revival

Then the other two we visited later

  • Vinyl Resting Place (in Afflecks Palace)
  • and HMV

I ended up getting a few things for myself for once! I'm so used to spending money on other people LOL

I got Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest on Vinyl, and Dr. Feelgood by Motley Crue & Rock 2 by The Dean Ween Group on CD!

I'm VERY happy about the Dean Ween CD becuase we've been looking for it for a while at those stores!!

I forgot to take many pictures, but after that we went to the Christmas Market that was dotted around on different streets. We got a bit lost trying to find the hog roast stand but eventually found it in Picadilly Gardens. I got my dad a hog roast and I got myself this rlly good beef burger, it was so good...

While we were walking to get food there was this cheese stall and let me tell you I made eye contact with this guy for half a second and he was already feeding me cheese samples (the way to my heart)
I got this mature cheddar and a peri peri cheddar which will taste soo good in cooking and stuff. Ive been nibbling on the mature cheddar since we got home last night LMAO

After we ate I got us both a pancake, dad had nutella and I had nutella with banana and strawberries. Its wild how different strawberries taste when hot!!!

Then we headed back to the train station only to find there were no trains going to my town.. so we had to call my mum to pick us up

Then we got home and I accidentlaly pulled my bedroom curtain pole down! THEN went to sleep

Sorry I didnt have more pictures for this one! I love my dad and am glad I got to spend some time outside with him before the new year <3

Thank you for reading!!! Lots of loove, Jaz xoxo

P.S. I GOT A STREETPASS TOO!! BEST DAY EVER

HAPPY DECEMBER!!

I meant to write this yesterday after I got home but I was so tired so Im writing it now, Yesterday (30/11/24) I went to MCM Comic Con in Birmingham! If you know me you know that I trade at both of the London events with Cosmic Workshop, but have only been to the Birmingham one once.

My mum had a pretty awesome panel at the start of the day, we almost didnt get there in time because of traffic LOL It was a tad stressful

message

I recorded the entire 36 minute talk and ooh my gosh did my wrist kill me afterwards, but Dino got some pretty awesome shots of my mum on stage.
Looking back on it the video quality definitely got compressed..

There was a guy there that was an actor in my mums favourite movie EVER but she couldnt afford to get a signature, so Dino had an idea to surprise her with a signature. I suggested that they get a video of him saying Hi along with the signature.
My part was keeping her busy while Dino snuck off

I ended up getting a few things for myself with the money I was given! (I cba to do a haul pic so Ill list them)

  • Cheese Charm
  • Egg Charm
  • Hotdog Charm
  • Bookmark from thechatterpie
  • and 2 Keychains (gifts)

All in all I had a really nice time, If you have any local cons on DEFINITELY GO!! Comic Cons are an experience that changed me as a person, and lets me step out of my comfort zone every time im there. I wouldnt be the person I am today without MCM <3

Thanks for reading!! Lots of love, Jaz xoxo

I went to one of my fav museums for the billionth time earlier today!!

Science & Industry is a museum in Manchester that has a bunch of machinery but the only bits open since 2019 (endless rennovations) has been the textiles section, its cool seeing how factories and stuff worked back then. but ENOUGH ABOUT THAT. THERE IS AN ENTIRE FLOOR. FULL OF INTERACTIVE STUFF.

Heres a pic of me with my wooden jenga block temple that I built, I have no idea how I managed to defy gravity with those top two blocks.

I wonder if its still standing,, its a childrens museum after all...

structureselfie

and heres a better pic of it in all of its glory

first actual post!! hope u enjoyed
